(6) Name: 'Knitting : Americana

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit, purl, yarn over
  • both charted and written stitch pattern instructions are given
  • simple embroidery (optional)

Pattern Description:

Knit a bit of history with this 39-star placemat size version of a red, white and blue flag. The lacy feather and fan stripes symbolize the flag waving in the breeze. The 5-pointed stars are created with a nifty combination of knit stitch and simple embroidery.

Note: Embroidery is optional, leaving the white stars in the blue union appearing as simple knit stitches.


4 stitches/51?2 rows per inch over stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 18" x 11"


  • bulky weight yarn in red, white and blue (see cover page photo image for details)
  • size US 10 (6 mm) knitting needles suggested for planned gauge
