Pattern Description:

This knitting pattern is for the individual Solstice Sun Motif Square only from The Magickal Throw. Instructions do include a schematic and instructions to make an entire throw using just this one motif though, or any others you choose to include to mix and match.

This Solstice Sun Motif pattern includes:
Full written instructions for either a complete throw, herb pillow (with backing squares) or single pot holder made using this one symbol (or mixing with your other favourite symbols if purchasing others).

Full colour chart for texture/design and greyscale chart for easy print and following. As there are also written instructions as knitting pattern no maths needed to work out how to use designs.

Complete schematic/instructions for a whole throw of 25 squares from motifs and backing squares.

Photographs of the finished symbols and demonstration of stranding. Extra notes and tips.


18 sts x 23 rows = 10cm (4 inches) in stocking stitch (stockinette)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One Block: 30cm x 30 cm (12 inches x 12 inches), 53 sts x 67 rows Throw (25 blocks): 152 cm x 152 cm (60 inches x 60 inches) Felted Block (for herb pillow) size varies depending on amount of shrinkage.


  • Needles: 4.5mm (US7) straight needles or needle size to obtain gauge.
  • Yarns: Jamieson & Smith Shetland Aran 100% Wool 90m (98yd) per 50g
  • Yarns: 60g (or slightly over 1 x 50g ball) Shade 15 Dark Brown (MC)
  • Yarns: 15g Shade 6 Cream (CC)

You Will Also Need:

  • Notions: Optional - Bobbins to keep contrast yarns. Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
