This small shrug is perfect for using a small amount of handspun or luxury yarn, and is great for layering over summer dresses or camisoles. The body of the shrug is a rectangle that knits up quickly in a simple openwork pattern that highlights the texture of the yarn. After the sleeves are seamed, stitches are picked up to work the front edging and short-row shaped shawl collar.
4" = 18 sts and 22 rows in Pillar Openwork Stitch on larger needles
Note: This stitch pattern pulls in so a larger needle than usual for these yarns has been used. Yarns shown usually knit at 18 sts to 4" in Stocking Stitch.

Kira K Designs is a line of original knitting and crochet patterns with a streamlined and eminently wearable aesthetic. Research on historical clothing, which Kira did during her former career as a theatrical costume designer, is a strong influence on her design sense, and many patterns reference styles from the 1920s through the 1960s. Kira's family history of Danish Modern furniture design is also an important influence on her patterns, resulting in garments and accessories with clean lines and intriguing details that are both interesting to make and easy to wear.
