Pattern Description:

"Based on the one piece long underwear worn for the past century in the America's, the Union Suit is a classic outfit that is designed for comfort and warmth. It features seamless construction with raglan shaping, a front buttoned opening from neck to gusset, a backside opening with buttoned flap, a roomy gusset, tapered arms and legs & twisted rib cuffs.

"When worked in soft wool, the Union Suit is the perfect outfit to wear in cool weather or when camping. The butt flap is functional and eliminates the need to completely undress when rushing to the outhouse.

"The Union Suit is sure to be a favourite go-to garment for all!"

Gauge:

20sts & 28 rows = 4" (10cm) in stockinette with US 6 (4mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • X-Small(Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, XXX-Large)
  • 28-30 (32-34. 36-38, 40-42, 44-46, 48-50, 52-54)"
  • 71-76 (81-86.5, 91.5-96.5, 101.5-106.5, 112-117, 122-127, 132-137)cm

Materials:

  • 2000[2300, 2600, 2900, 3200, 3500, 3800]yds (approximate yardage required as this will vary according to any mods made)
  • Sizes US 4 (3.5mm) and US 6 (4mm) circular needles, OR size needed to obtain gauge; 24" (60cm) or longer for body & smaller length or double pointed needles for sleeves and legs
  • Two US 6 (4mm) double pointed needles for gusset OR size needed to obtain gauge

You Will Also Need:

  • 4 stitch markers
  • Two 1-1.25" (2.5-3cm) buttons for backside flap, six .75" (2cm) buttons to match backside flap & 9[9, 10, 10, 11, 11, 12] .75" (2cm) buttons for front opening more buttons may be needed if torso length is lengthened)
  • Scrap yarn for lifeline and to hold leg & sleeve stitches
  • Blunt needle to weave in ends
