About the designer

At 6' tall, I used to have a hard time finding sweaters with long enough sleeves. So I took up knitting to make my own sweaters.

Swing Coat #150

from Vermont Fiber Designs
(6) Name: 'Knitting : Swing Coat #150
Swing Coat #150
Swing Coat #150
Swing Coat #150
Swing Coat #150

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit, purl, increases, decreases, picking up stitches

Pattern Description:

This is a great coat for cool weather! It's flared silhouette skims nicely over the hips, so it flatters many different body types. The yarn used called for a gauge of 4.5 sts per inch, but I worked it at a slightly tighter gauge (5 sts per inch), which gives it more body - a good thing in a coat.

20 sts and 27 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch, using larger needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • XXS (30") to 6X (70")

  • 1450-2725 yards worsted weight yarn
  • Sizes 5 (3.5 mm) and 6 (4 mm) needles

You Will Also Need:

  • Stitch markers; cable needle; three 1" buttons
