Basic Skills Necessary:

Pattern Description:

Worked top down, this gently flared short sleeved cardigan is worked in Garter stitch, beginning at shoulders. Use a variegated yarn like the one in the sample to make the starry night pattern.

Fitted shoulders are worked with vertical decreases below the shoulder on front and back.

Body of cardigan is worked in one piece.


In Garter stitch, 9 sts and 9 Garter ridges (18 knit rows) = 2" (5cm).

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • XS, finished chest 30" (76cm)
  • S, finished chest 34" (86.5cm)
  • M, finished chest 38" (96.5cm)
  • L, finished chest 42" (106.5cm)
  • XL, finished chest 46" (117cm)
  • XXL, finished chest 50" (127cm)


  • Worsted yarn, 970 yards (885m) - 1415 yards (1295m)
  • Size 8 (5mm) circular needles

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry needle (blunt point) for finishing
  • Stitch holders
  • Stitch markers
  • One button, 1-7/8" (2.2cm) across diameter
