About the designer

I've been knitting for (OMG!) over 50 years. But wait: I started when I was about 4 so that's not so bad!

I love things that look hard to make but are actually really easy, and I very much enjoy ...

Sock Yarn Knitted Jacket

Sock Yarn Knitted Jacket

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit
  • Purl
  • follow written pattern directions

Pattern Description:

My daughter wanted a sweater with some very specific design elements: curved bottom front edges, single button closure, inset front pockets, long sleeves and a "frilled" collar on a deep V-neck. The main details were easy to handle, it was the collar that was going to be trouble mainly because of bulk when using conventional design and yarns.

Problem solved with sock yarn! The body of this jacket is knit holding two strands of sock yarn together, and the pocket linings and "frilled" collar are knit with just one strand of yarn, to make the fabric drape properly and keep the bulk under control. The inset pockets at the waist on the front are perfect to stash a cell phone or other electronic device and the tuxedo styling is flattering on all figure types. The deep ribbed sleeve cuffs feel luxurious and the one-button closure allows for a WOW factor to use that special button you've been saving for all these years.

She loves the end result and I thought maybe others might too.

This garment is knit in pieces and seamed, with some challenging design elements, and so is recommended for somewhat experienced knitters. BUT the pattern has been written to give adventurous beginners the tools to be successful: no sneaky "work as for Left Front, reversing all shaping"!! I hate that and feel like it's either lazy pattern writing, or editors cutting instructions to cram everything into less space. So with thanks to Craftsy, it's a 10-page pattern, and everything is there.
