Basic Skills Necessary:

  • work in the round
  • graft live stitches together (kitchener stitch)
  • cable cast on
  • picking up stitches

Pattern Description:

This short-sleeved boyfriend cardigan is a classic. It's simple to knit, worked seamlessly from the bottom-up and great for beginners. Sarabeth looks great worn open, or buttoned closed and topped off with a belt. It's shown here in size S/M worked in a loose fabric. Sweater knits up beautifully with worsted weight yarn worked at gauge, as shown in the youth version of this pattern (sold separately).


20 sts and 25 rows per 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished Chest: 33.25(35.5, 38, 40.5, 42.75)[45.25, 48.5, 50.75] inches
  • Size: S(S/M, M, L, L/XL)[XL, 2X, 3X]


  • 880(1000, 1100, 1230, 1310)[1470, 1690, 1830] yards dk or worsted weight yarn

You Will Also Need:

  • Size 8(5 mm) needles and set of 5 DPNs, Size 7(4.5 mm) needles and set of 5 DPNs, stitch markers
  • Notions: 12(13, 13, 14, 14)[15, 16, 16] 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 -inch buttons
