Basic Skills Necessary:

  • ability to read charts (the lace pattern is ONLY charted)
  • understanding of how lace knitting "works"

Pattern Description:

I create designs for a local rancher who breeds championship cashmere goats (and wins awards for the fleece) in Barboursville, Va. She has a lovely blend of cashmere/silk/merino wool that not only has amazing stitch-definition, but also comes in glorious jewel-tones.

I chose her ruby-red for this butterfly scarf ... the lace pattern looks intricate, but if you can read charts, it's not hard at all.

This shawlette will keep your shoulders warm without too much bulk so it's wearable all year round!

This would be stunning in the heavy-fingering weight hand-dyed sock yarns you can find at your LYS or fiber festivals.

#8 needles: 4st x 6rws = 1" over stockinette

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approx blocked size: 33" wide by 15" deep

  • 185 yards of heavy fingering weight. The sample used one skein of Spring Gate Farm's Cashmere(50%)/Silk(25%)/Merino(25%) yarn in a gorgeous ruby red
