Pattern Description:

Not your basic baby sweater, open stars combines a lacy bodice with shawl collar for a refined and dapper look. One of the more difficult pattern stitches in the collection, open star stitch produces a lovely, soft, lacy look similar to crochet with lots of stretch.

Body is worked all-in-one piece from the bottom-up. Sleeves are worked separately from the bottom-up. Shoulders are sewn, sleeves are set-in. Sts are picked up and worked for collar.


22 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches/ 10cm in St st.
23 sts and 28 rows in Open Star Pattern.
Take time to check gauge.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • SIZES 3 - 6 (12, 18, 24) months


  • 2 (2, 2, 3) skeins Madelinetosh's Tosh DK 100% superwash merino wool; 225 yds/ 100 gm skein; shown in Chamomile or approx 325 (375, 425, 500) yds/ 300 (350, 400, 450)m DK weight yarn
  • 4 buttons -- 3/8"/ 12mm diameter

  • Size 6 US/ 4mm needles, or size to obtain gauge
