Knitting a kaftan dress was always on my to-do list and I finally got down to designing one in linen with a rather simple fair isle border. Kaftans are truly versatile garments. They can be worn on the beach as a cover up, indoors as part of a casual ensemble or as a fashion statement for evening parties and events. The kaftan is definitely unique and an essential addition to one's closet!
The kaftan is worked in stockinette stitch as two pieces, front and back and then hand sewn together using back stitch along side borders leaving 9" for arms at the top. The front and back at the shoulders are sewn in mattress stitch.
7sts and 7rows=1 inch in stockinette st.
