Doesn't your grandpa have a cozy cardigan to wear around the house?
Cardigan is worked from the bottom up. Shawl collar is extended with short rows to be wider at the neckline. Cabling is worked on the fronts and modified for the sleeves, and the back is knit in a wide-wale rib. Cables are both full written & charted. Knit it oversized to be comfy like Gramps, or to your chest measurement for a little more sass (shown fitted in size M). Gramps is available for babies & children, too!
18 sts and 25 rows per 4 inches in stockinette, 38 sts per 6 inches in Criss Cross Cable Pattern

Kate Oates is the designer for Tot Toppers & When I Grow Up. She enjoys designing hats and garments for babies and children in particular, these projects often reflect a whimsical spirit. Kate's When I Grow Up line is for those of us who are not tots, featuring a modern classic style. Kate also strives to add specifically to the growing body of knits for boys as she has three of her own! You can find her patterns at your local yarn store or online. She also does freelance work for a variety of publications.
In her non-knitting life, Kate has just finished up a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida. She lives with her family in South Carolina, which includes husband Ryan, Jesse, Charlie & Oliver (3 very handsome Tot Topper's models) and beloved dogs Cooper and Lou. You might also see the Oates' clan at a Clemson football game. Go Tigers!
