Basic Skills Necessary:

  • following a simple lace chart

Pattern Description:

Named for the Latin word for "jewel" Gemma is a simple cardigan with lace "necklace" at the collar that is
knit in one piece from the top down with a circular yoke. Three-quarter length sleeves are knit down from
the yoke and are slightly puffed with cuffs of the same lace as the collar. Gemma is a flattering cardigan that is sure to become a wardrobe staple.


21 stitches & 26 rows = 4" in St st

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Women's XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL) Finished bust measurements: 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52)"


  • Knit Picks Swish DK, 7 (8, 9, 9, 10, 11, 12) balls of Tidepool Heather (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 123 yards per 50g ball); 770 (880, 990, 1100 1210 1320 1430) yards
  • US 5 (3.75mm) circular needles (length needed is determined by size: at least 32" for XS-L, at least 40" for XL-3XL) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Same size of needles preferred for working sleeves in the round (e.g. DPNs, two circular needles, or long enough for Magic Loop)

You Will Also Need:

  • 11 (11, 12, 12, 12, 12, 13) 1/2" (13mm) diameter buttons
  • Coordinating thread and sewing needle
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Scrap yarn
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
