I had a request for a cabled cardigan with a crewneck, with no more specifics. So I played with a lot of cable patterns and found the pair used in the body of this piece, which I think complement each other well. I wanted "built-in" button bands, and a long bottom and sleeve rib, so back to the stitch pattern books I went to find just the right cables, and I'm thrilled with the results.
The yarn I used works up at a gauge of 4.5 sts per inch in Stockinette stitch; if you wish to use a different yarn, make sure you find one that will match this gauge.
34 sts and 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Cable Pattern; 22 sts and 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Waffle Pattern
At 6' tall, I used to have a hard time finding sweaters with long enough sleeves. So I took up knitting to make my own sweaters.
