Women, Plus-sized

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit, purl, increases, decreases, picking up stitches, cabling

Pattern Description:

This stitch pattern is a slight variation on one I found in one of my stitch books. I love the way the purl ridges intersect with the cables and ribs without interrupting their flow. The ridges are used again in the collar and button bands to pull all the elements together. The collar frames the deep v-neck beautifully. The pattern offers a choice of a cropped (as shown) or standard length. The yarn requirements for the shorter version are given first, followed by requirements for the longer version between .

The yarn I used works up at a gauge of 3 sts per inch in Stockinette stitch; if you wish to use a different yarn, make sure you find one that will match this gauge.

16 sts and 16 rows = 4" (10 ) in Cable and Rib Pattern

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • XS (32.75") to 6X (67.5")

  • 825-1540 yards bulky weight yarn
  • sizes 10 (6 mm) and 11 (8 mm) needles

You Will Also Need:

  • cable needle; stitch holders; stitch marker; 3/4" buttons

At 6' tall, I used to have a hard time finding sweaters with long enough sleeves. So I took up knitting to make my own sweaters.
