Please see Yarn note below for important yardage information.

Foehn is the warm, dry wind - the snow eater; it can raise temperatures as much as 30C / 54F within a few hours - a wind of dramatic change. This wind goes by many names throughout the world - Chinook (western Canada), Sirocco (Italy), Bergwind (South Africa) and Zonda (Argentina).

Knit in the 'Sea Glass' colourway to reflect the colours of the Mediterranean and the unparalleled blue of the sky over the Rockies, Foehn will wrap you in lacy comfort.

Foehn is a heart-shaped shawl, knit from the bottom up, beginning with a Crochet Cast On (photo tutorial included). Stitches are decreased at the centre spine and outer edges to shape the shawl. Final stitches are ended with the Double Drawstring Bind Off (photo tutorial included).

Two sets of directions are provided, one for chart users and a full set of written directions for those who prefer to work from text. The pattern contains 14 pages.

A chart is included showing stitch counts for each decrease row.

The yarn used for this pattern is a gradient yarn.

NOTE: The sample used 559yds so it is imperative to match gauge exactly; if in doubt, purchase extra yarn - many yarnies sell coordinating colours that match their gradient yarns.

Blocking Notes
Blocking brings out the true beauty in lace shawls; a yarn that blocks well should be used and the shawl must be blocked.

To achieve the results shown:
place stitches on blocking wires in the same direction i.e. always scoop up from underneath or always poke down from the top;
along bottom edge pick up only the points; notice the sts at the spine are not at a point;
along the top edge pick up every second eyelet and follow schematic for shaping.

24 sts and 31 rows over 4" / 10cm in Stockinette stitch, washed and laid flat to dry
In Chart 3 Lace Pattern, each 8 stitch repeat measures 1.75" / 4.5cm; each 16 row repeat measures 2.5" / 6.5cm, blocked
