Women, Girls

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit, purl, use stitch markers, use provisional cast on, make short rows, graft stitches together, make simple lace.

Pattern Description:

The colors of Noro yarn are always inspirational. I chose the "winding creek" motif, which uses short rows, to mix the colors together and prevent them from lining up horizontally. The simple lace pattern on the edges is to make it more interesting than just pretty colors in stockinette.

The stitch pattern is easy to memorize. The pattern contains both charts and written directions. As written, the cowl is long enough to double around your neck for warmth, or let it hang down like a scarf.

20 St. to 4 inches and 28 rows to 4 inches, on US size 5 needle (3.75mm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • As written, finished size is 7 inches by 59 stitches. The length can easily be altered by adding or subtracting repeats.

  • One skein (328 yards) of Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn, or equivalent yarn with long color changes

You Will Also Need:

  • US size 5 needle (3.75 mm), stitch markers, yarn needle, waste yarn for provisional cast on.
