Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You will need to be able to: knit in the round using double pointed needles, purl, cast on, cast off, make one stitch, make a simple cable ( instructions included in pattern), knit two stiches together

Pattern Description:

This hat was designed to complement a pair of cable handwarmers.

A flattering style to suit most women.

This simple beret knits up quickly in chunky weight yarn.

The headband is knitted first to fit comfortably around the preferred head circumference.

Then stitches are picked up from along the edge of the band to
make the crown which is knitted in the round on double pointed needles.


Approx. 14 stitches over 19 rows = 10x10 cm (4x4 inches) in stocking stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • To fit womens head circumference 19 - 23 inches (48 cm - 58 cm).


  • Louisa Harding Millais 50g x2 balls ( Green Hat)
  • Sirdar Click Chunky 50g 2 balls (Purple Hat)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto Chunky 50g x2 balls (not shown in picture)
  • Debbie Bliss Luxury Donegal Tweed Aran 50g x3 balls. HOLD TWO STRANDS TOGETHER to obtain gauge (Gold and Orange Hats

You Will Also Need:

  • x5 6.5 mm (US 10) double pointed knitting needles (dpn's)
  • x1 cable needle (or spare double point needle)
  • Blunt tapestry needle for sewing/weaving in ends.
