Pattern Description:

This Twined knitted pattern is written for three sizes and includes a Twined Knitting Primer for those knitters who have never practiced Twined knitting before. In Sweden, as long ago as the 17th century, a form of knitting was practiced called tvaandsstickning, or two-end knitting. Using a strand from each end of a center pull ball of yarn, the created fabric has great warmth, strength, and durability, as well as elasticity which approaches that of spandex! Pattern motifs have evolved which are quite beautiful, resembling floats of yarn across the surface. This technique takes some patience and effort to master, but will soon reward the tenacious knitter with ease,

Gauge:

8 sts/8 rnds per inch in twined stockinette stitch.
Save time, take time to check gauge.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Leg circumference: Child-6.5" (Small), Woman-7.5" (Medium), Man-9" (Large)

Materials:

Yarn: For a lightweight sock: Two skeins (MC) fingering weight sock yarn (50g/220 yards), or one skein of any twined knitting z-plied yarn (100g/289-328 yards). Also, a few yards of some similar weight yarn in a contrasting color (CC) for the cast-on edge.
Yarn: For a heavier, thick sock: Two skeins (100g/245 yards per skein) Guernsey yarn, or other sport weight yarn (MC).
Also, a few yards of some similar weight yarn in a contrasting color (CC) for the cast-on edge.
Needles: A set of four or five US 2 (2.75 mm) dpns. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
