Pattern Description:

The Hill House scarf was inspired by the high-back chairs designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for The Hill House, the house which he designed and furnished for the publisher Walter Blackie. It is double-knit, making it completely reversible and extra cosy.

Gauge:

30 stitches × 38 rows = 4" (10cm) in unblocked garter stitch.

28 stitches × 36 rows = 4" (10cm) in blocked garter stitch.

For the squares to be square when the scarf is finished, your blocked gauge needs to have a 4:6 stitches to row ratio.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 4.5" (11.5cm) wide by 45" (114cm) long

Materials:

  • The pattern requires a total of 440 yards of fingering weight/4 ply yarn, 220 yards in each of two colours.
  • 2.75mm (US 2) straight or circular needles
