Women, Girls, Petite, Tall, Plus-sized

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knitting in the round, reading charts, simple lace, twisted stitches, provisional cast on, hemmed bind off.

Pattern Description:

Fingerless gloves can be very utilitarian.

These are most definitely NOT.

Lace, wrapped stitches, twisted traveling stitches: this pattern has a lot going on.

However, each individual section is logical, and it is easy to read
what comes next.

Knit in soft alpaca at a dense gauge to show off the traveling stitches, they will assuredly keep your hands deliciously warm.

Pattern Notes
Written instructions for the charts are also included in this download. To save on paper & ink, preview the PDF and print only what you need.

As knit, the patterning on these mittens is very soft & subtle. If you would like the design to really pop, I recommend using wool rather than alpaca (and either a tightly twisted 2 ply or a 3 ply yarn).

This version of the pattern includes instructions for substituting braids for the lace bands.

Please note if you have small hands, you may need to divide the thumb before you complete the Thumb Chart. If you do, just continue in pattern according to the Thumb Chart once you pick up the stitches from the waste yarn.

An alternate thumb chart is also given (few rows shorter than original

The hand of this glove is fairly long (6"); to make the glove shorter, simply work fewer rows of the Hand Charts, based on your round gauge.
