Pattern Description:

The Sweetwater Hipster Bag in two sizes - a large bag for teens/adults and a sweet little smaller size for girls. Both are great basic felted bags that you can wear anytime. The large size knits up quickly using two strands of worsted weight yarn held together, the child's size uses one strand, and there is no seaming! Well, maybe one seam of 6 stitches if you make the bag with felted strap. You can embellish this bag with needle felting, embroidery, a crocheted flower, or a special pin. It also looks great with no embelishment, just use an interesting button as a focal point for your bag. The Sweetwater Hipster is such a fun bag to make and wear and because it knits up quickly you can make one in all your favorite colors!! The large size bag can be made with a felted strap (gray bag with flower in photo) or you can attach a leather strap to felted tabs using heavy duty snaps. That way you can make lots of bags and only need one strap!

Gauge:

Large size bag:
11 stitches/4" and 16 rows/4" in stockinette stitch using size 13 needles and two strands of worsted weight yarn held together.
Child's size bag:
14.5 stitches/4" and 24 rows/4" in stockinette stitch using size 10.5 needles and one strand of worsted weight yarn.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Large size bag: 9 1/2" wide, 8" high, 1 1/2" deep
Small bag; 6 3/4" wide, 6" high, 1" deep

Materials:

Large bag; 420-530 yards of worsted weight 100% wool yarn
Large bag: 16" size US 13 circular knitting needles
Small bag: 200 yards of worsted weight 100% wool yarn
Small bag: 16" size US 10.5 circular knitting needles

You Will Also Need:

Large bag: strap with 1" rings in each end (if making your bag with a separate strap) and heavy duty snaps for attaching the strap to the bag
Both bag sizes: 3/4" - 1" button
