This scarf is knit on the bias, and the stitch pattern reverses sides every 13 rows. The ends flare out and slant -- this can be reduced during blocking. I love the look of a bias knit scarf, but wanted something a bit more eye-pleasing than stockinette or garter stitch. One of the features of this pattern is that it can be made for either a man or woman, depending on the yarn choice.
The pattern includes instructions for increasing the width, and it can be knitted to whatever length is desired.
5 stitches/6 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch, unblocked
