Pattern Description:

This shawl uses the sunspots stitch from Barbara Walker's 3rd Treasury. To invoke the idea of the sun, I named the shawl Surya who is the main sun god in the Hindu religion.

The pattern is both written and charted.

It has been thoroughly test knitted and tech edited.


24 sts and 36 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Two sizes: shawlette and shawl


  • 400-575 yards heavy lace or fingering yarn
  • crochet hook and scrap yarn for cast on only
  • US 5 (3.75mm) needles

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch markers
  • tapestry needle
