Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should already know how to knit and purl as well as be comfortable with increases and decreases.

Pattern Description:

I started to design this bag as the sun was rising on the Summer solstice. It struck me how the funky red, yellow, and orange wool that I chose looked just like the colors in the sunrise.

This is a quick and easy bag to knit with standard stitches, increases, and decreases. You can choose to do several variations for finishing such as a felted I-cord strap, purchased strap, lining or no lining, eyelets with a drawstring closure, magnetic clasp closure, etc.

Gauge is not critical for this project.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Purse measures approximately 9" long by 5" deep after felting

  • 325 yards (150 grams) worsted weight wool or other yarn that will felt (not super-wash wool)

You Will Also Need:

  • Size 8 (5.0 mm) needles, purchased purse strap, button of your choice to fit loop closure, large plastic sewing needle

My mom taught me to crochet and sew when I was a child. I learned to knit a few years ago. I have always enjoyed fiber arts as a hobby. Now I have started a new venture. I have an online store called World Village Fibers. My goal is to eventually open a shop in my hometown. Update: I'm very fortunate to have found a nice space for a small fiber arts shop/studio and plan to open in 2012!
