The shawl starts with just a few stitches, as it is worked from the neck down. Stranded and lace knitting techniques are combined in the pattern. Only two colors are used on any one row. Previous experience with colorwork on WS rows is recommended.
S size uses just one skein of sock yarn for the main color. For contrasting colors you can use leftovers or mini skeins. Use yarn with high wool content: wool will give you the right amount of 'grip' for colorwork, while still stretching enough to show off the lace pattern. The shawl has to be blocked to shape, so choose yarn that holds blocking well.
Test knitters recommend these yarns:
madelinetosh tosh sock
Aade Lng Artistic 8/2
Regia Silk 4-ply / 4 fdig (Uni / Solid)
20 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette
I am a Lithuanian living in Hungary - for more than 10 years already. I learned knitting still as a child, and then knitted occasionally, but very passionately. I also did pottery, web and print design, but have no time for that anymore, because I again got obsessed with knitting and this time with designing as well.
