(6) Name: 'Knitting : Sarai

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Basic lace stitches (YO, SSK, k2tog)

Pattern Description:

Sarai is a simple, crescent shaped shawl that features a beautiful combination of stockinette stitch, lace and texture. Instructions for use of fingering or DK weight yarns, repeatable charts and alternate border options are provided to easily modify the size of your shawl or change the combination and balance of the stitch patterns used. Sarai's curved shape and large wingspan makes this shawl stylish, easy & versatile to wear. Directions are provided in both line by line written instruction and chart form.


Fingering Weight Version: 22.5 sts and 33 rows = 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch, unblocked

DK Weight Version: 19 sts and 26.5 rows = 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch, unblocked

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Fingering Weight Version: 68"/173 cm across the top, 16"/41 cm down the center stitch
  • 70"/178 cm across the top, 17"/43 cm down the center stitch


  • Fingering Weight Version: US 6 (4mm) 32"/81 cm circular needle
  • DK Weight Version: US 8 (5 mm) 32"/81 cm circular needle
  • Fingering Weight Version: Approx. 440 yards (402 m) Fingering Weight yarn
  • DK Weight Version: Approx. 450 yards (411 m) DK Weight yarn
