Pattern Description:

Ruxton is a super textured, top-down triangular lace shawl with motifs inspired by nature. The decrease placement in the richly textured border pattern and the picot bind off combine to form a subtle ruffling effect at the bottom, giving the shawl a lovely drape. The shape is a slightly elongated triangle, and may be blocked with the top edge straight or a bit curved.

The Ruxton pattern includes both charts and full written out instructions for those of you prefer not to use charts.

Ruxton works up really quickly. Both the body and border patterns are very intuitive and easy to memorize. Before you know it, you'll have a warm and snuggly Ruxton to call your very own!

Instructions are provided for two sizes: a 64" x 30" shawl worked in sport weight, and a 56" x 26" smaller shawl worked in fingering weight. The gold shawl pictured is worked in sport weight and the rusty brown shawl pictured is worked in sock/fingering weight. The texture is still very evident in the fingering weight, but I would not recommend lace weight since the cool texture of the border will not show to its best advantage.

The size is very easy to customize either by using different yarn, changing the number of pattern repeats, or both. Full instructions are provided to show you how, including how to calculate stitch counts for any size and how changing the number of chart repeats will affect the final size.

Construction Notes: Ruxton starts at the center back of the neck and is knit down to the bottom edge. On the body, patterning is done on the right-side rows only, with all wrong-side rows being purled between the garter spine and borders. The textured border is patterned on both sides on most rows.

BIG CHARTS! I highly recommend setting the "Page Sizing" on your Adobe Acrobat printing window (left side) to ACTUAL SIZE in order for the charts to print as large as possible.

Gauge is not critical, but my sport weight version had a gauge of 4.5 st per 1" stockinette, blocked

Excellent Ruxton Rocks  September 5, 2013

The design of stitches just flows off the needles.
I am not a fast knitter but this pattern was easy to memorize and it flew off the needles - only four evenings to make it.

LOVEDDDDD IT

Hi! I am a former professional guitarist who at least for now am very grateful to be designing full time.

I made all my clothes and jewelry as a hippie girl many years ago, and had a little cottage industry of selling my handcrafts to friends in high school. I later turned to music and put down all the needles and hooks and soldering guns and whatnot for over 30 years. I picked up knitting ...
