Rondo is a piece of music that has a principal theme that alternates with other, often more challenging or interesting themes. The familiarity of the principal theme is very similar to the familiarity of a cable pattern that repeats itself. This cabled slouch was music in my fingers and I hope it will play for you similarly. The brim is worked in crossover ribbing which then bridges into a circular cable repeat. The crown is worked on the reverse stockinette stitch background. Cables are both written and charted. Shown in Toddler/Child and Adult Small.
23 sts and 27 rows per 4 inches in Cable Pattern on larger needles

Kate Oates is the designer for Tot Toppers & When I Grow Up. She enjoys designing hats and garments for babies and children in particular, these projects often reflect a whimsical spirit. Kate's When I Grow Up line is for those of us who are not tots, featuring a modern classic style. Kate also strives to add specifically to the growing body of knits for boys as she has three of her own! You can find her patterns at your local yarn store or online. She also does freelance work for a variety of publications.
In her non-knitting life, Kate has just finished up a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida. She lives with her family in South Carolina, which includes husband Ryan, Jesse, Charlie & Oliver (3 very handsome Tot Topper's models) and beloved dogs Cooper and Lou. You might also see the Oates' clan at a Clemson football game. Go Tigers!
