(6) Name: 'Knitting : Romanesque

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • yarn over
  • single decreases
  • double decrease
  • provisional cast on

Pattern Description:

Romanesque is a semi circular shaw knit from the top down, and features plain stockinette sections that alternate with a simple lace pattern. This pattern is suitable for beginning lace knitters, as there are rest rows, and no center stitch to worry about.
Pattern includes full directions for both the small and large size, and includes charts, written directions, and stitch count totals for every row.
This pattern is intended to be opened using Adobe Reader v. 6 or later. Mac users please note that this file may not open properly with Preview. Please make sure you use Adobe Reader.


22 stitches and 28 rows = 4" (10cm) in stockinette after blocking.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Small shawl - 17" (43cm) deep, 48" (122 cm) wide
  • Large shawl - 22" (56cm) deep, 58" (147cm) wide


  • 440 yards sock yarn for small size shawl
  • 800 yards sock yarn for large size shawl
  • US size 5 (3.75mm) needles
