Basic Skills Necessary:

  • long tail CO
  • knit
  • purl

Pattern Description:

Overview: Sideways 'Faux' Brioche Ribbing stripes. Looks exactly like brioche ribbing but worked with traditional knitting stitches.
This is a great short cut, easier to maintain tension and no confusing for new learners acronyms and manipulations.
A two row/two stitch repeat as the main pattern, with (optional) garter ends.

Very easy to modify: For length, +/- multiples of 2 per +/- inch desired. For extra width - simply knit more rows before BO *Modifications will create differing yarn requirements

Long tail cast on and blocking are necessary for this project.

238 yds [217 m] of chunky/bulky 7- 8 wpi - Grey sample used Berroco Weekend Chunky 2 balls 119 yds/109 m per ball - Blue green scarf used 240 yds/218 m {1.6 hanks} of Pastaza Paint - your yardage may vary depending on gauge & size

US 10.5 (6.5mm) circular needle 32" long - (for CO only)
US 10 (6mm) OR 9 (5.5 mm) circular needle 32" long -(for body pattern) - if you are a loose knitter use the sz 9 - you want it to make very tight knit if doing stockinette with your chosen yarn - this pattern expands greatly and the stitches enlarge once you've worked about 4 rows.
2 stitch markers (for denoting the garter ends)
A single US 13 (9mm) needle of any type - straight, circ, or DPN (for the necessarily extra loose BO)
I found the best yarn for the project is smooth, either cable twisted (tight multi strand), chainette construction, or single ply.

13 sts, in pattern as knit = 5" (12.8 cm)

For needle & yarn selection - Worked in stockinette your stitches, with your chosen yarn and needles, should be VERY tight. Mine on US10 (6mm) needles = 15.25 stitches by 22 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) as knit/unblocked in stockinette.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 81" by 5.5"

  • 216 yds bulky yarn
  • us 10 circular
  • us 10.5 circular
  • us 13 needle any type

Suggested yarn:

216 yards of Bulky weight
