The pattern was inspired by the Victorian Regard ring where the word regard is spelled out as an acrostic in jewels - ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby and diamond. A Regard ring would be given to a sweetheart to show that she was held in high esteem.
The design starts with a lacy cuff, then a slipstitch pattern for the jewels. Around the toe is a little bit of colourwork to represent the scrolled gold of an old Regard ring.

I live on a smallholding by the sea in the south of New Zealand where I have my own sheep for wool and various other animals. I love designing and knitting - mostly Fair Isle - and playing music.
