Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit and Purl, increase and decrease, knit in the round, felt the item. (Felting directions are given.)

Pattern Description:

I've seen all kinds of hats on Red Hat Ladies, so I thought we had to add a felted hat to the mix. Of course, this hat can be made in any color you want, so you don't have to be a Red Hat Lady to need a felted hat ! Felted hats make great rain hats. You won't get wet.

The hat is made in the round from the bottom up. The purple metallic trim is knitted in with the hat as you go. The flower is made separately.

There is a separate pattern for a matching felted purse if you want a coordinated set. If you make both, you need only 84 yards total of the metallic yarn, so you won't have to buy a second ball. NOTE: Do not use super wash wool for felting.

15 stitches/ 4 inches, 20 rows/ 4 inches in stockinette stitch, before felting.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 22 inches around (adjustable during felting)

  • Worsted weight wool, 220 yards (198 meters); metallic trim yarn, 84 yards (77 meters). Size 10 1/2 double pointed needles (6.5 mm), size 10 1/2 16 in. circular needles (6.5 mm)
