Fast and fun to knit. Very versatile style.

Fun to work 'row below' technique is simple to learn and memorize. 2 stitch/4 row repeats make a lovely raised checked texture that holds warmth yet breathes well. Knit in the round with two colors (single hank each) of chunky yarn it works up fast. Into/Exit rounds of Garter prevent curling.
2 balls (120 -140 yds each) of aran or chunky yarn= I each of contrasting colors of same type of yarn, sample used Cascade 'pastaza' in light grey and med blue.

32" (80 cm) long pair of circular needles US sz 10.5 (6mm)

End of round marker

row counter (optional= only 4 rows )

Darning needle to sew in ends

Easily adapted to other gauges of yarn/needle - just work a swatch back and forth with your chosen yarn. Modify the in the round directions to flat by working all the shown here as purl (even) rounds as WS knitted rows on your swatch. Figure out your gauge and multiply stitches per inch by desired length and CO the nearest even number (stitch is a multiple of 2)
is not critical - select a yarn of about 8 WPI (wrap per inch) = heavy worsted, aran or chunky.
