Pattern Description:

A friend of mine wanted this Pakul (also spelled Pakol or Khapol, from the Khowar language of Chitral) a soft, round-topped mens' hat, typically of wool and found in any of a variety of earthy colors: brown, black, gray, or ivory. Before it is fitted, it resembles a bag with a round, flat bottom. The wearer rolls up the sides nearly to the top, forming a thick band, which then rests on the head like a beret or cap. After looking everywhere online for a pattern and not finding one I set about designing one. This has been a popular patten.

Gauge:

18 stitches = 4inches (1 0 cm) stocking stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Small: Diameter top 8 inches (20 cms), Girth around side 17.5 inches (44.5 cms)
Size: Medium Diameter top10 inches (25.5 cms), Girth around side 21 inches (53.5 cms)
Size: LargeDiameter top11 inches (28 cms), Girth around side 28 inches (71 cm)

Materials:

Set of 5 4.5 mm DPN's and one circular needle 4.5 mm 60cm long
1 marker in a different colour (to mark end of the round)
7 other markers to mark each of the increases
Any worsted weight yarn. Approx. 3.5 oz (100 gms) 200 yds
