Overview: Fast and fun to knit, a trick with the stitches makes these beautifully unique upraised and elongated sections. Worked in the round on big needles with super bulky yarn, it goes quick - whip up a last minute gift in an afternoon. A complex at first glance technique that is really quite simple and fun to create. So try something new :) With only a five stitch/four row repeat it's easy to memorize and keep track of. A great skill builder for beginners or addition to the repertoire of more advanced knitters.
Needs:
Sz US 15 (10 mm) circular needles 20 - 29" (51 - 74 cm) long
164 yards(150 m) of super bulky yarn - Sample used Schulana Cortina - Malabrigo Rasta or Berocco Sundae are also nice substitutions
1 stitch marker for EOR (end of round)
row counter (optional - there are only 4 so it's pretty easy to keep your place)
Darning needle to sew tails
Gauge:
Not critical to project. For yarn selection - roughly 2 stiches per inch (2.5 cm) in stockinette. For modification of circumference - one repeat (5 stitches in patt.) is 2.25" relaxed as knit, 3" stretched. Measures 30" (76 cm) around by 11.75" (30 cm) tall, before (optional) blocking.
Not critical to project but -roughly 2 sts per inch in stockinette for yarn selection
160 yards of Bulky weight
