Basic Skills Necessary:

  • follow a written pattern
  • increase and decrease
  • be familiar with sock knitting

Pattern Description:

This is the 6th pattern (and my 2nd contribution) for the 2011 round of Super Sock Scarefest. I was inspired by the classic Night of the Living Dead, and decided to knit a sock that looks like something the fashionable zombie-chick would wear.

The pattern is written for the two circular method of sock knitting, but can be easily adjusted to DPN or magic loop. It also features a faux-tear and several randomly placed runs to add to the look of "I've been chased through the woods by flesh-eating monsters".

The sample (knit to accommodate a Woman's size 10 shoe) used approximately half a skein of Dream In Color Smooshy in Scorched Lime, less than one ball of Knit Picks Palette in Bittersweet, about 25 yds of Palette in Fairy Tale, and 5 yds of Cascade Heritage in Cherry.

8sts per inch in stockinette st, in the round.
Be sure to knit your swatch in the round as knitting flat changes your gauge slightly. Take time to check gauge carefully to ensure proper fit.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Woman's S(M,L); 7 (8, 9) inch circumference: (can be easily adjusted for width and length to fit most feet).

  • 2.5mm double-pointed needles. OR two sets of 2.5mm circular needles; or one 2.5m circular needle at least 24" long for magic loop (or what ever s ize is necessary to hit gauge).

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch markers
  • darning needle
  • row counter (optional)

Suggested yarn:

450 yards of Fingering weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Knit Picks Palette

Bittersweet, Fairy Tale, Cherry, and green
