Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knitting in the round
  • Garter Stitch
  • k1f&b - knit one stitch in the front and the back of the loop
  • inc1 - increase 1 st - instructions given for an invisible increase stitch
  • k2tog - knit 2 stitches together
  • ssk - slip a stitch, slip the next stitch, knit the 2 stitches together

Pattern Description:

Make one for a newborn gift or make dozens to donate to hospital nurseries!

The projects start out using the double pointed needles as you would straight needles by knitting in the Garter Stitch. Then the projects are turned and continued by knitting (only the knit stitch) in the round on the double pointed needles.

This is an easy and quick project!!

Gauge:

6.75 sts and 10 rounds = 1 inch in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Mittens - cuff circumference 3.5 inches; hand circumference 5 inches, length 4.75 inches
  • Beanie - circumference 10.5 inches; length with rolled brim 4.25-4.5 inches

Materials:

  • Super Fine (#1) fingering yarn - 130 yards
  • US size 2 double pointed needles
