Nelumbos Prayer Shawl Pattern

Pattern Details

Women, Girls

Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • provisional cast-on
  • kitchener stitch

Pattern Description:

This is a quick and easy knit that gives great results. It's easy enough for beginners and makes for a unique and elegant shawl. This pattern will let you make a beautiful gift for someone you love.

The yarn I recommend is a blend of silk and mohair, which makes the shawl almost cloud-like. But you can use any type of yarn you want, depending on the result you want to achieve. Bulkier yarn will turn it into a solid winter accessory, light lace yarns will make it perfect for summer evenings.

The pattern can be easily modified to make the shawl larger or smaller.

Pattern includes row by row description of the body and charts for the lace border.

  • 2 skeins of kid silk type of yarn (400-490 m / 440-490 yards total)
  • circular needles nr 5 (US 8)
  • tapestry needle
  • piece of waste yarn for the provisional cast-on
  • blocking pins/wires

Suggested yarn:

450 yards of Lace weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Garnstudio DROPS Kid-SIlk, Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Austermann Kid Silk, Grignasco Kid Seta

Amadeit on

I started knitting when I was a little girl, surrounded by women who were making magic with their needles and yarns. I was watching and learning, and then one day I just picked up the needles and followed in their footsteps. Today I knit and I make my own designs - one childhood dream that came through for me:)
