KNITTING METHOD FOR COWL - 2 method provided, flat and in the round

The hat is knitted flat from bottom up - sides are sewn together at the end (using either mattress or invisible vertical on garter stitch - see the picture tutorial at the end of the pattern)

HAT: from 90 yards (82 meters) to 260 yards (237 meters) - depending on the size
COWL: 130 yards (120 meters) to 217 yards (200 meters)

no charts, written out instructions only (plus picture tutorial for complex stitches)

DK/ (8ply), Light Worsted (Medium No 4 yarn in US)
Size 4 US (3.5 mm) needles (for ribbing part);
Size 5 US (3.75 mm) needles or size needed to obtain below gauge (for the main part);
Small Cable needle (CN);
Scissors, tapestry needle.
GAUGE: In pattern - 24 sts x 32 rows = 4x4"
