Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Cast On
  • Knitting in the round
  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Stranded colorwork
  • Knitting through the back loop

Pattern Description:

With stranded color work and seamless construction these quick to knit mitts would be a great introduction to knitting with two colors.

:: NOTES ::
One skein of the main color and one skein of the contrast color will be enough to work both the hat and mitts.

Mitts are worked in the round to the thumb, which is worked back and forth in rows to create the opening. Stitches are picked up around the thumb to finish.


24 sts and 32 rows = 4in (10cm) in
stockinette stitch.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 7.5in (19cm) hand circumference and 8.75in (22.5cm) long.


  • US 4 (3.5mm) 16in circular needle
  • US 4 (3.5mm) set of 4 double pointed needles
  • 1 stitch marker to denote beginning of round
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • (2) 225 yard skeins of DK weight yarn in complimentary colors. Sample used Madelinetosh Tosh DK in colors Astrid Grey and Dr. Zhivago's Sky.

Suggested yarn:

450 yards of DK weight
