Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • pick up stitches
  • single crochet

Pattern Description:

This modular bag, inspired by the classic log cabin quilt pattern, is knit in strips of garter stitch which grow from the center "hearth" of the pattern. The finished pieces are joined with crochet, and then felted. Suitable for beginners, since only one color is knit with at a time, and the felting forgives any slight "design improvisations".

14-16 stitches to 4 inches in garter stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 11 inches H x 13.5 inches W x 5 inches D

  • heavy worsted weight wool yarn for felting, 100 yards each of 11 colors
  • size 10.5 knitting needles
  • size crochet hook (for seams)
