Pattern Description:

Knitting pattern for a basic close-fitting beanie hat in 7 sizes, to fit a newborn baby right up to adult size, plus instructions to make it into either a ladybird or a frog hat.

There are a choice of sizes of eyes for the frog and head pieces for the ladybird to fit the size of beanie you are making. Also a choice of 2 simple hem styles.

This is a written pattern for a hat made on 2 needles with a back seam, using any smooth 8 ply / DK yarn.

The basic hat pattern is the same for either the ladybird or the frog and can also be used as a simple stocking stitch beanie pattern without the creature features.

Gauge:

21 sts, 28 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles, using 8 ply /DK yarn

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • to fit head sizes: 35 cm, 38 cm, 43 cm, 47 cm, 50 cm, 55 cm, 59 cm

Materials:

  • DK/8 ply yarn 35 - 80 gms (depending on size) in main colour
  • Ladybird: 20 gms black DK for spots, feelers and head; Optional (safe only for over 3 yrs) - sew-on "joggle" toy eyes size 12 -15 mm
  • Frog: Green safety toy eyes size 18 - 24 mm, small amount toy filling, or (safe only for over 3 yrs) sew-on "joggle" toy eyes size 18 -24 mm

You Will Also Need:

  • 1 pair 4 mm (US 6) needles
  • 1 pair 3.25 mm (US 3) needles
