Knit Beach Tote and Floppy Hat Ensemble Pattern

Basic Skills Necessary:
- Cast on, knit, purl, increase one stitch, bind off
- Single crochet seaming (instructions are included in pattern directions)
- Make an I-cord (instructions for an unattached and attached I-cord are included in pattern directions)
- Optional: Do the Kitchener stitch (instructions are included in pattern directions)
- Pick up stitches
- Knit 2 together decrease
- Slip a stitch
Pattern Description:
I divide my time between southern California, the island of Kauai and Barcelona ... so I need a durable cotton beach/pool tote and hat. The tote is an easy knit: it's knitted flat and the side edges are seamed together. The edging and handles are I-cords. I've attached a handy plastic key ring.
Add a floppy cotton hat that doesn't mind a little sun and water and you're ready for fun in the sun. The hat is a simple design knitted in the round and the Sea Star is an easy to knit but if you prefer to add an embellishment of your own design, go for it!

Gauge:
Tote: In seed stitch, 3 stitches = 1 inch Hat: In stockinette stitch, 5 stitches = 1 inch
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- Tote: Approximately 12" long by 13" wide when empty. It will stretch as you fill it up!
- Hat: About 17.5" to 18" Circumference, Suitable for an Older Child or Woman
Materials:
- 2 Skeins Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn (total about 400 yards/366 meters
- A Few Yards Contrasting Color Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn
- One Pair Straight Needles, US #10 1/2/UK #3/6.5 mm
- Two Double Pointed Needles US #4/3.5 mm (UK #9 or 10 can be used)
- 16 inch Circular Needles AND Set of four double pointed needles, US/UK #7 (5 mm)
- Size G or H crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- 1 Stitch Marker
