Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • knit in the round on double pointed needles

Pattern Description:

These socks are a tribute to Horatio Herbert Kitchener. The gentle waves represent the undulating sand dunes he must've become accustomed to in his Sudanese campaigns. This simple pattern lends itself to both solid and variegated colorways. It also features the famous Kitchener Stitch in both the toe and heel.


28 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 8 inch foot circumference


  • 175 yards of Fingering wool (I used Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino)
  • US 2/2.75mm double pointed needles

You Will Also Need:

  • a small length of waste yarn (to hold stitches while working)
