Women, Men

Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • working in the round
  • yarn overs

Pattern Description:

I have been absolutely addicted to canning this Spring. In the last 2 months, I've made at least 15 batches of jam and even ventured into pickles. It's the jam, though, that's got my heart right now. The colors of these mitts remind me of beautifully ripe summer berries, and the mitts themselves are fun and simple enough to allow my mind to dream of new jam flavors as I knit. As an added bonus, they are completely reversible (see back page photo to check out the inverse of the two-color mitts).

22 stitches = 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette stitch.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Small [Medium, Large] - 3.5" [4", 4.5"] across hand (measured above base of thumb but below knuckles).

  • US #6/4mm (or size to get gauge) for knitting a small item in the round (either double pointed, or two circulars, or one long circular for magic loop).

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry needle
  • Scrap yarn to hold thumb stitches
  • stitch markers

Suggested yarn:

175 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Both versions shown in Knitted Wit Superwash Merino Worsted (100% merino wool; 218 yards/200 meters per 3.5 ounce/100 gram skein).

Two-color mitts shown in colorways Buckle My Shoes (color A) and Silver Lining (color B). One-color mitts shown in colorway Raspberry Milkshake.
