Basic Skills Necessary:

  • provisional cast on
  • pick up stitches along a garter edge

  • directional increases (m1L and m1R)

Pattern Description:

Intermingling is a new take on the basic garter triangle, using a two-color slip stitch edging and a frilly bind off.

This shawl is worked from the top down, starting with a garter tab.

19 stitches and 40 rows = 4 in./10 cm in garter stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 46 in./117 cm wide along top edge and 21 in./53.5 cm deep at center spine after blocking


  • Approximately 420-440 yds. (384-402.5 m) of fingering weight yarn in main color and approximately 50-60 yds. (46-55 m) of fingering weight yarn in the contrast color
  • US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles, 32 in./80 cm or longer, or size needed to obtain gauge
