I set out to design a bucket-style hat with some panache and this was the result. It's a fabulously easy-to-wear hat for either guys or girls. The women's version has a picot edged brim and flower cluster, while the guys' version is unadorned save for the two-color braid.
Although this project is small, it's jam-packed with techniques. You'll begin with a provisional cast on, shape and join the brim, and work the knitted braid. The body of the hat is plain stockinette shaped with a welt at the top and double decreases worked to the end.
Video tutorials are available at my website for the trickier bits. This isn't the fastest hat you'll ever make, but surely on of the classiest!

After 20 years of working in music and worship arts, I have had the joy of spending the last six years teaching and encouraging knitters, as well as designing knitwear.
I am hopelessly addicted to making beautiful, colorful things.
