Basic Skills Necessary:

  • provisional cast on
  • pick up stitches along a garter edge
  • knit and purl
  • directional increases (m1L and m1R)
  • cable cast on

Pattern Description:

The companion shawl to Diminishing Returns, Incremental Growth uses the simple textures of stockinette and garter stitch to show off the beauty of a single skein of hand-dyed fingering weight yarn.

This shawlette is worked from the top down, starting with a garter tab, and finished with an elegant picot bind off.

This pattern has been professionally tech edited.

Gauge:

18 stitches and 32 rows = 4 in./10 cm in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approximately 43 in./109 cm wide along top edge and 29 in./48.5 cm deep at center spine

Materials:

  • Approximately 400-420 yds./366-384 m of fingering weight yarn
  • US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

You Will Also Need:

  • 4 stitch markers
  • yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Suggested yarn:
