Pattern Description:

A great first-shawl project, this classic triangular shawl (76 x 36) shows to perfection the gorgeous colors of this heavy DK wool yarn.

Sample shown used 720 yards of Solitude Wool's Suffolk-Dorset blend in three colors: natural (with black flecks), chickweed and watermelon pickle, although any 100% heavy DK wool will work.

Eyelets create the X's and O's that give the shawl its name. The border is garter in alternating colors.

The directions are charted and written.

The shawl starts with a garter tab and continues the 4-stitch garter edging throughout the shawl


14sts x 20rws = 4" stockinette, blocked

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • one size -- 76-inches x 36-inches


  • approx 720 yards of heavy-DK wool yarn (sample used three colors of Solitude Wool's Suffolk-Dorset blend)
  • US #10 circs - 40- or 47-inch length
  • stitch markers (4)
  • blocking wires, boards to make shawl bloom!
